Strong Businesses, Political Leadership Say “It’s the Right Thing” to Support Bonds

Sara Haire Tice is a former chair of the Iredell County Board of Commissioners. This letter appeared this week in local newspapers.

November 4th is a crucial day for the quality of life for Iredell County.  Two critical bonds need our support: the Iredell/Statesville/Mooresville School Bond and the Mitchell Community College Bond.  The actual vote for these bonds is on the back side of the ballot. Please flip the ballot and VOTE YES for both the school bond and the college bond.

This 2014 Bond Referendum benefits our schools countywide. Statesville Middle School, North and South Iredell High Schools, Cool Springs Elementary, Mooresville High School and Brawley Middle School.  The second ballot benefits Mitchell Community College.  For many years I have worked with strong businesses, such as Lowe’s,  to bring jobs to Iredell County. Employers spoke loud and clear to say “WE MUST HAVE AN EDUCATED WORK FORCE” and Iredell County has long worked to provide that.  So, let’s continue to support our schools and college to keep Iredell County at the forefront of education.

In the year 2000 we built the Lake Norman High School amid much controversy over the need for another high school.  I worked hard to get the the deciding third vote on the Board of County Commissioners to get the funding. Even the GOP Chairman warned me I was destroying the Republican Party by this action.  When the school building was completed, it quickly filled to capacity.  That chairman has told me many times since, “Sara, you did the right thing!”  I urge YOU to do the right thing and vote for our school bonds  and the Mitchell Community College Bond.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Sara Haire Tice,
Former Chair, Iredell County Board of Commissioners
